31/5/10 After nine years concentrating on the business and the family William has his Race Licence back. Offers to race customer's FIA MGBs look like the best route back to the black stuff.
19/5/09 David takes the Caterham 7 to Castle Combe for a day of one to one instruction..."I wish I'd had instruction during the Metro years - as I now realise how little I knew about going quick!" I'm sure that's not true but instruction is allows good value.
10/12/2008 The Grey Whale UYD96G has a new owner, Dr Mike McBride from Jersey. Mike races a MGC GT Sebring Replica in the CSCC Swinging Sixties Championship. We hope the Grey Whale will make an appearance in the same in due course.
More details at: http://www.classicsportscarclub.co.uk/Swinging%2060s.html
18/8/2008 The Grey Whale stretched her legs at the MGCC MGs-on-Track Day at Castle Coombe on 14th July. Dave and I shared the driving. We were joined by plenty of our customers on track. Mike and Jill Grout were out in Jill's daily driver 74 Roadster. Jill's first time around a track and smiling all day. George Tymms took his 76 Roadster for one of its many outtings this year and Rob and Jim Mackie were hammering around in Jim's racing Sprite (it's not a Midget!).
The photo: According to Barry Evans (our track driving instructor) braking should be done before you turn in at Camp Corner...
Thanks to all at www.mgs-on-track.com for another great day out. Particulary to Barry Evans who proved that instruction can be useful even to those of us with previous track experience.
21/1/2008 William's brother David is set to return to the track in 2008 in our Grampion Grey MG CGT race car aka "The Grey Whale". After a gap of 6 years and 2 children since he sold his MG Metro Cup car he is squeezing back into the race suit and tackling as many of the MGs-on-Track days as possible. www.mgs-on-track.com
1st August 2006 Tony Wilson-Spratt has an entry for his BHG engined WSM at the Goodwood Revival this September. We will ofcourse all be there to cheer him on. (Will might just take his helmet incase Tony brakes a finger nail and can't drive...)
27th March 2006 The 2006 Racing Season gets under way this month. Silverstone will see the opening round of the MGCC Championships on Saturday 1st April. We have a growing band of customer's race cars out this year. You should be able to see a "Beech Hill Garage Car" at most MG meetings this year. Whether it's one of Simon Merriott's Bs, Richard Dawe's BCV8 BGT, Tony Wilson-Spratt's WSM, Peter Blanchett's Midget or Rob Manser's MG Metro.
Simon Merriott's collection has grown over the winter. Simon has found a stable mate for his yellow '65 B by aquiring the ex-Neil Cawthorn '63 FIA Spec MGB. (See picture) This is a beautiful car that Neil has built over the years into a stunningly detailed example. We are pleased to have been involved with the preparation of both cars for this year. Following a little light preparation both cars were taken to Tom Airey's rolling road both showing some very encouraging results. Simon plans to take the FIA car to the UK rounds of the GTS Equipe "championship" this year with a view to building up to the European rounds next year. This will rub his new car's shouldlers with Tony Wilson-Spratts WSM. So should be good for some gentlemanly and friendly competition. Simon has used his yellow B in the MGCC BCV8 Championship but fancies turning his hand to some of the MGCC Total Butler Championship rounds this year.
Best of luck to all our friends racing this year. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mallory Park 2nd October Tony Wilson-Spratt enjoyed his last outing for this year in his unique WSM MGB. Having rushed over from the IOM on Saturday with father Douglas. Tony collected the WSM from us that afternoon following a quick race prep and a fresh set of rear wheel bearings. He should have had a new LSD with 4.1 CWP but for a last minute supply hitch with a bearing. Sunday qualifying went well (given the diff. ratio) and the race proved eventful with a few places being made up by the flag. Read more about this event and the WSM legacy @ www.wsmcars.com Tony is always looking for info relating to his father's business and the cars he produced. If any one can add to the story (see website) Tony would be happy to hear from you.

We have a number of customers out this season with their racing MGs.
Simon Merriott will be doing a good number of races in Class B of the MGCC BCV8 Championship, Peter Blanchett is running his modified Midget in the MGCC FADS Midget Challenge, Tony Wilson-Spratt from the Isle of Man will be doing a few Historic FIA events in his WSM MGB and our ex-colleague, friend and fellow MG enthusiast Richard Dawe will be throwing his 1380cc Midget Trails car at a few muddy slopes whilst doing his best to improve on the 3rd in class he achieved last year in the BCV8 Championship.
Simon had an enjoyable first outing at Silverstone. His lap times were coming down quickly only to be let down by an electrical gremlin that shut the whole car down. Needless to say it was delivered to our door that evening and has been receiving our own brand of MG TLC since.
Peter had his first session testing and is pleased with his winter rebuild. As we “went to press” Peter was preparing for his first round of race action.
Tony, by all accounts was pleased with his new BHG race engine reducing his lap time around Snetterton by a hefty 7 seconds. And I’ll blow our own trumpet here if you don’t mind! Cambridge Motorsport had a shock too! The engine was built in-house by Ted Riviere (founder and head man at BHG) and his more than able partner Rob Mackie. Due to geography and logistics it was fitted by Paul Wallmer (a leading light in AH 3000 circles) and taken to Cambridge Motorsport to be set up on their rolling road. Eyebrows were raised and questions asked such as “who built this engine?” The reason being it was producing basically similar power and torque figures to CM’s own full race engines. So big grins all round at BHG and in the IOM!
And finally…..Richard sauntered into the shop last Monday wearing a big grin and not one but two laurel wreaths and carrying two shiny trophies. The spoils of two wins at Brands Hatch the day before. When Richard worked with us here at BHG he campaigned his Grampian grey MGC GT that was sold a year or two ago now but bitten by the bug he bought Dawn-Marie Turner’s BGT and has returned for a full season of action in Class A of the MGCC BCV8 Championship. Richard’s B is a regular front- runner in his class. Keep an eye on www.bcv8.co.uk for up to date information about the MGCC’s best Championship for MGB racing.
